pimp-my-poster

Pimp My Poster is a Custom GPT created by Tim Fransen (Technical Tutor, LSBU) to support students in developing more effective event posters through formative, design-focused feedback. The GPT is informed by ten best-practice design principles, aligned with a student handout embedded in the knowledge base and guided by a set of instructions.

Students need a free ChatGPT account to access the Custom GPT. By uploading a draft poster (in PDF or JPEG/PNG format), they receive structured design suggestions aligned with ten core principles of effective event poster design, including clarity of purpose, visual hierarchy, font legibility and simplicity. This supports reflective practice and iterative development in preparation for one-to-one or group tutorials.

The tool encourages low-stakes experimentation, helping students build visual literacy and confidence in their design decisions. Available 24/7, it offers consistent, accessible feedback on demand, while also introducing technical terminology (e.g. “call to action”, “visual hook”, “digital access points”) in context. This not only improves the quality of their design work but also strengthens their ability to articulate creative choices in academic and professional settings.
